I didn't know y'all were still reading. I've had a few requests for updates. I am going to Pakistan in March. I will be there 3 weeks, traveling in Peshawar province and the tribal areas. I will spend a few days in Islamabad and Rawalpindi too.
I know there are some concerns by people who love me about my safety. I know that this might be a dangerous trip. I am taking measures to ensure my safety. I will not be staying in hotels or dining in western-heavy restaurants. I will be immersed in the culture with locals who will be looking after my safety. They are fellow Christians and I will be their guest.
In this time of turmoil and conflict I feel that a journey like this is even more necessary. I mourn with Pakistan over the murder of Bhutto. I do not believe that hope for stability and freedom were extinguished with her life. I have faith that eventually Christians and Muslims will learn to live with one another as brothers and sisters (or at least friendly cousins). Just the way I have hope that those of the same faith will learn to live together in peace even with our theological differences.
I remember Christ's prayer in John and I have hope that there will come a day with no religion and only worship. ("That they all may be one as the father and I are one.")
There is a great deal of religious persecution in Pakistan. I hope to gain a deeper understanding of those who suffer there, and an understanding of how those Christians who suffer also endeavor to serve.
The Diocese of Peshawar sent some of the first medical teams to earthquake stricken areas in the Northwest Frontier Provinces. Please visit their website and see some of the wonderful things that are being done in the name of love and in service to Christ.
